The Powerful Homeland party together with the patriotic union "Javakhq" has started discussions devoted to the problems of the Armenian community in Georgia and in particular to those of the Armenians in Javakhq. Today the educational problems of the Armenians in Javakhq were discussed. There are schools in Javakhq which do not give graduates. There are 116 Armenian schools with 21 thousand pupils in the Samtskhe-Javakhq region of Georgia. In 2005 the Georgian Ministry of Education adopted a law according to which the schools get direct financing from the state according to the number of pupils and the geographic location. But calculations show that this way of financing is efficient only for schools with more than 300 pupils, and suchlike school are not many. According to the head of the patriotic union "Javakhq" Hovhannes Ayvazyan, besides the problem of textbooks and school buildings, the salary of the teachers must be raised too, for the teachers to agree to work. "The salary of the Armenian teachers must be equal to that of the Georgian teachers", he said. He mentioned another problem to, "The lack of knowledge of the Georgian language is also a problem for the Armenian community of Georgia. It hinders the integration of the Armenians into the life of Georgia and their full participation in the governing of the country. This problem must be solved, but not at the expense of the mother tongue, but alongside with it".
